our scars remind us
that the past is real

The mahogany frame of the ess passed in and out of view, blocking by the dense foliage. Her crown raised, Dante surveyed the landscape, snorting softly when she noticed no other doves. Weren't these the claiming grounds? Had she come to the wrong place? There was nothing to do, but wait. The crunching snow beneath her flints did little justice to disguise her position, leaving her open to anything that might come her way. Silently, she cursed this neverending winter. But atleast no humans could find her, since they'd all left. Dante had never understood humans, but she was glad they were gone. Hollows dilate and contract, deep lanturns still finding no trace of fellow equines. Pausing her saunter, she raised a flint above the loam, allowing a call to slip past her parted velveteens.

*Piebald stallion trotted through the lands to answer the mares call. Snow and feathers flew as he trotted in, and when he saw the mare, he approached and halted when he reached her. Steam flew from his nostrils as the stallion stood before her. Bowing his head, his lone forelock fell over his eyes, and he looked up at the mare, a broad smile on his face...*

"Hello there, miss. Who might you be? I am Chill, King of the Twilight Icefall, and son of Lash, our murdered light king. I am looking to rebuild his herd to the powerful one it once was. Would you be interested in a home there?"

*He asked, raising his head to gaze upon her. His smile, so warm and friendly, no one knew what lay behind it, except perhaps Grim. He didn't care though. He knew he was being a bit forward, asking that she joined him so soon, but he could feel the wind kicking up, and smell the changing tides. A storm was brewing, and Chill wasn't eager to be caught out in it...*

we were meant to live for so much more

Auds prick, then lace into her tangled locks. She heard the crunching of hoofbeats in the snow, her depths searching for the equine to have caused the noise. A sharp snort was drawn from her nares, and soon she saw him. He looked young, as she was, and Dante admitted to herself that he was somewhat attractive, but she would never, however, say this to him. Call her shy, but it really wasen't the kind of thing the huntress would say. For she wasen't like so many other uncorrupted mares. But...in a sense, she was corrupted, just maybe missplaced, and she couldn't stray from what she'd known all her life, what was imprinted into her mind, what her blood was. There was simply no leaving it, so she was stuck with it.

Grimacing slightly, she managed a sweet reply. "I am called Dante. However soon it may be, I'm interested in any home, if it's with you." She almost gagged, but somehow remembered to keep the stupid smile on her mug. Be a normal light, be sweet, innocent, and don't be careless. That was what she told herself, for fear of not being accepted, for living the rest of her life as an outcast. No...that wouldn't happen again. She snorted softly, her breaths blowing puffs of smoke into the cool air. She too sensed the approaching storm, knowing it was best to find shelter now, for when one was caught in a blizzard...well, it definatly wasen't good.

have we lost ourselves?

*His grin grey, if even possible, wider at her reply. He wasn't forcing it, it came naturally to him to be so fake. But what harm could it do? He'd gotten everything he'd ever wanted. He chuckled softly to himself, knowing that Grim could have had it too, and so much more, because of his size. But he'd chosen not to, and that was his fault. And when he'd fallen, Chill had been there to shoo him away and take what was his...*

"Dante, I'm delighted to here that! There are so many...strange types around here that find it fun to torment lonely mares when they come to these lands. Take my brother for instance. Cursed, that's what he is. Used his size to overpower people, even if he claims he doesn't (*here he gave a theatrical sigh*) Why, I lost my two dear parents to him, and a good friend... (*He shook his head*) I try my best to make sure he can harm no one else..."

*He said, appearing to be most upset when thinking of his eldest brother. It was true, he did his best to keep people away from Grim, and he'd done it so long, for all he knew if someone got close to him, he might actually get angry and hurt them, being alone for so long. Chill didn't really care, as long as he didn't start speaking out against Chill himself, which by now he'd learned not too...*

"Anyway, shall we go then?"

Dante watched him, flicking her cords against her flank, it was just in habit though, for no flys dared to venture out here, and they probobly were all extinct by now anyway. Good, Dante thought, alteast something good came from this. An aud twitched, and she grinned, but quickly wiped it away. How tragic... she thought, but dared not say this aloud. Truthfully, she didn't care at all, but he would never know that. Parting her labrums, she prepared a reply that was just as sickly sweet as before. "I'm so sorry, lord Chill, but I know I'll be safe with you." Shifting her gaze, she noticed the swirling winds were blowing about the snow, roaring in her auds, and ruffling her tresses. Turning back to him, she grinned. "We shall."

this is the dawning of the rest of our lives

"Marvelous, follow me then..."

*Chill said, wheeling on his haunches and springing into a trot, wandering back through the snow the same way he came. As usual, snow flew from his hooves, spraying his face and body with a cold shower of the tiny ice particles, he didn't care though, he'd long since grown accustomed, and even enjoyed, a fresh powdery snow. He glanced behind himself, to make sure she was still coming, and made his way back to his home...*
