It is the year 3025, and the earth is presently encased in it's second Ice Age. The humans have moved into one giant city to conserve energy and heat. Because the energy is at such a premium, all the animals were released back into the wild to fend for themselves.
However, a group of weathly patrons bought the Province of Gideon, a vast land of many terrains. There they released all the horses, placing a fence to keeps all the predators who might attack the equines out. Then they funded a laboratory to grow hay and grain for the animals they are saving. The humans grow it, process it, and bring it into the Province every night.
They never interact with the horses besides providing them with food each new morning. As the horses grew steadily wilder, the humans ceased to even lay eyes on their now wild beneficiaries. They just let them live out their wild lives, fighting for their gift food, and letting only the strongest survive.
The horses are slowly evolving to accomidate the harsher enviornment. Draft horses with their thick coats, manes, tails, and feathers are very common, as well as the hardy ponies who call the Province home. Arabains and thoroughbred have all but ceased to exist in pureblood, though you can find a mix here and there.
Over the years, the once domestic horses have become progressively wilder, completely oblivious of the roll their ancestors' old masters play in their lives every night, believing their food to be a gift from nature instead...
